Moshe was tending Yitro’s flock in the wilderness when he saw a bush burning without being consumed. As he approached, God called him by name from the bush and said that the ground beneath him was holy.
God said he had seen his people’s suffering in Egypt, heard their cry, and come down to rescue them. He sent Moshe to Pharaoh to bring out the people of Israel.
Moshe asked who he was to go, and what he should say to the people. God promised to be with him and revealed his name. Amid fear and questions, Moshe’s calling took a new direction.
