Yeshua with Miriam and Marta

Eleazar of Beit Anyah became ill. His sisters, Miriam and Marta, sent word to Yeshua. Yeshua loved them, but stayed where he was for two more days. Then he set out for Yehudah with his disciples. By the time he arrived, Eleazar had been in the tomb for four days.

Marta went out to meet him and said that if he had been there, her brother would not have died. Yeshua said her brother would rise. She answered that she knew he would rise in the resurrection on the last day. Yeshua said he was the resurrection and the life, and asked whether she believed this. She answered that she believed he was the Mashiach, the Son of God coming into the world.

Miriam came to Yeshua and fell at his feet. She too said that if he had been there, her brother would not have died. When Yeshua saw her and the people with her weeping, he was deeply moved. He asked where they had laid Eleazar, and he wept.

At the tomb, Yeshua asked them to remove the stone. Marta reminded him that four days had passed and there would be a smell. Yeshua reminded her of his words about believing and seeing God’s glory. They removed the stone, and he thanked the Father for hearing him.

Yeshua called loudly for Eleazar to come out. The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped in burial cloths and his face covered with a cloth. Yeshua told those standing there to unwrap him and let him go.
